Let's start from the very beginning

Many years ago (about 23 actually), a boy named Lou was born in Napier hospital, New Zealand.

As an aside, New Zealand is a great country, mainly because it's an island - so there's always a beach nearby :)

Anyway, Lou was brought up in New Zealand, and has lived in quite a few different cities around New Zealand.

As a boy, Lou had two main hobbies, which involved Rugby and playing the violin.

Rugby is a pretty popular sport in New Zealand, and New Zealand is quite famous for their Maori Haka. While playing rugby was all very satisfying, playing for the local school rather than a local club didn't seem to stick very well with Lou, and he quit rugby and started rollerblading instead.

Rollerblading became a large part of Lou's life, and he started doing more and more tricks. Similar to other fields, rollerblading has a specialisation called Aggressive Inline Skating. A pretty fancy few words for describing the type of rollerblading where you do lots of tricks.

Interestingly enough, the picture of the 'skater' on the left is Lou. He kept up with his Inline Skating until he did a backflip one day and injured his knees. His knees have been recovering since, and he's now in good enough shape to take the sport up again if he chooses to do so.

Another hobby mentioned above was playing the violin. At age 7, Lou asked his mum if he could play the violin. 10 years later, Lou was still practicing the violin, and was playing in the school orchestra, an out of school orchestra, and a trio nicknamed the 'violente trio'. Today, Lou has an electric and an acoustic violin. He has been playing in a band called Mammoth, where he added soothing melodies to ambient metal. Lou also discovered a singing talent, and is the singer of Mammoth.

To be fair, the first band that Lou was in was called 'Powerbeat', and was started at high school. After a few months singing in 'Powerbeat', the band managed to come second in the local Rockquest competition. Lou also did some singing in the high school musical Grease, where he played Kenickie, and sung the 'Greased Lightning' song on top of an old cadillac.

Acting was also a hobby at school. Lou started drama lessons at 12, when he got a small role in a local 'Bugsy Malone' musical, and was in the national Shakespeare competition at around age 16.

After completing school, Lou went to university, where he studied Computer Science. Lou was part of a software team that won the 2008 national Microsoft Imagine Cup competition, with their Taxibus software idea. A self made video with a bit of humor was made to hint at the idea:

A video of the Imagine Cup competition can be seen in this campbell live video.

Having completed a computer science degree, Lou then decided to learn about the business world, as he has an entrepreneurial spirit. In 2009, Lou enrolled in Canterbury Universities Master of Engineering Management program, where he learnt a bunch of business skills from accounting to Systems Engineering. Lou and Janina also entered the Taxibus idea into the Entré 75k challenge, of which they won (actually won the top two prizes).

While finishing the MEM program Lou worked hard on the Taxibus concept, and did background research required for turning the Taxibus idea into a business. A series of life changes however led Lou to finding a German girlfriend who he proceeded to follow over to Germany.

Lou is now living in Germany, equipped with his Master's degree, enthusiasm and a tiny bit of the German language!

  1. Hey there! Your blog is very cute! Thanks for the suggestion you left on my blog. I have been trying to write about it, but procrastination was in my way. I will try to put my experiences in the paper. Take care!
